If it hadn’t been for our guide, I would have walked straight passed this little master of camouflage: a green vine snake! It was hiding in the low vegetation next to the 200+ steps that lead to the Dambulla cave temples, north of Kandy (Sir Lanka). It’s said to be one of the most beautiful snakes in the world and I won’t argue with that: it has a long and slender body in a luminous lime green color, an elegant head and striking big eyes. And it’s only mildly toxic, so harmless to humans. I’m so happy I had my camera close at hand!
