Gran Canaria! After a scenic drive through the central mountains of the island we headed back to the GC-1 highway on the east coast and that’s when we came across this tiny little village along the beautiful winding C-814 road: Las Vegas. It took us less than two minutes to drive through, passing by a handful of modest houses, so it’s safe to say that this Spanish Las Vegas is nothing like the Las Vegas in Nevada – except maybe for the heat and the cactuses.  The name however (Las vegas is Spanish for ‘the meadows’) suits this tranquil green mountain village perfectly! Gran Canaria also has villages called Puerto Rico, Lanzarote and San Francisco…
