Road tripping the USA for a month

After half a year of planning, tomorrow is the day my boyfriend and I go road tripping Idaho, Montana and Wyoming for a month! But first, let me tell you a story about how I went to Idaho eighteen years ago…

This is me in 1998, embarking on my first journey to the USA. Destination: Idaho, home of the potato, of scenic byways and welcoming people.

A wonderful host family in Rexburg (Madison County), welcomed me to their home and took me in as their daughter.

And what a home that was!

I bought myself a cowboy hat and explored the Idaho wildlife with the family,

had a blast driving a quad,

played around at the St Anthony sand dunes,

performed at the Idaho International folk dance festival with my Belgian dancing group eight nights in a row, along with other countries like the Ukraine, Togo, Latvia and South Korea,

admired the wonders of Yellowstone National Park,

had a mood swing at the same time as the weather,

saw an Old West Rodeo (and kept the newspaper article),

and had a going away barbecue.

But not before failing miserably at laser tag first…

Idaho, here I come again!

And now, eighteen years later, I’m going back! My boyfriend and I will be road tripping Idaho, Montana and Wyoming the next few weeks and if all goes well, I might even meet up with some members of the host family I stayed with back then. “Love in any language, straight from the heart
Pulls us all together, never apart
And once we learn to speak it, all the world will hear
Love in any language, fluently spoken here” :):):)
