After half a year of planning, tomorrow is the day my boyfriend and I go road tripping Idaho, Montana and Wyoming for a month! But first, let me tell you a story about how I went to Idaho eighteen years ago…
This is me in 1998, embarking on my first journey to the USA. Destination: Idaho, home of the potato, of scenic byways and welcoming people.
A wonderful host family in Rexburg (Madison County), welcomed me to their home and took me in as their daughter.
And what a home that was!
I bought myself a cowboy hat and explored the Idaho wildlife with the family,
had a blast driving a quad,
played around at the St Anthony sand dunes,
performed at the Idaho International folk dance festival with my Belgian dancing group eight nights in a row, along with other countries like the Ukraine, Togo, Latvia and South Korea,
admired the wonders of Yellowstone National Park,
had a mood swing at the same time as the weather,
saw an Old West Rodeo (and kept the newspaper article),
and had a going away barbecue.
But not before failing miserably at laser tag first…
Idaho, here I come again!
And now, eighteen years later, I’m going back! My boyfriend and I will be road tripping Idaho, Montana and Wyoming the next few weeks and if all goes well, I might even meet up with some members of the host family I stayed with back then.
